Thanks to our community’s feedback, we learned that this wasn’t the right approach, and we rolled it back. In fact, we were so gung-ho about getting data out of Figma that we even tried introducing an API challenge asking for our community’s help to build a Sketch Exporter.
One user even used Figma as a CMS! And when we introduced Figma’s plugin API, we were pleased to see developers use plugins to bring data in and out of Figma. When we released the first web API in 2018, we noticed that customers like Uber and Github were bringing Figma file data into their internal tooling.
It’s one of the many reasons we build Figma on the web and provide APIs for other developers to tap into. Since our founding, we believed that your data should never be locked inside Figma. Our journey towards building an open platform started on day one. For our shared customers that love using both Figma and Framer, we’re excited for your experience to be more seamless than ever.
